Our Mission
AAUW’s mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research, and to speak to women’s needs, aspirations, and concerns across the life span. The work of AAUW builds upon over a century of responsible public participation at the local, state, national, and international levels.
Membership
Eligibility: Members shall be graduates holding degrees from institutions accepted by the Association or degrees from foreign institutions recommended by the Committee of Standards of the International Foundation of University Women. Also eligible are graduates holding associate or equivalent degrees from qualified educational institutions that offer recognized associate, baccalaureate, or higher degrees and have full regional or appropriate professional association approval.
Dues: Dues of all members are payable on or before July 1 if a member’s name is to be included in the yearbook. The annual membership dues in the South Bend branch are $88, allocated as follows: $69 for Association dues which $3 includes National email correspondence , $7 for State dues and $9 for Branch dues. Life members pay State and Branch dues of $16 only and are called “paid life.” Student affiliates pay $18.81 (See Branch By-Laws); e-student affiliates may join for free if they attend AAUW member institutions. $66 is tax deductible.
Life Member: A member may become life member upon payment of an amount 20 times current AAUW dues and therefore shall be exempt from payment of the Association dues. Any member who has paid Association dues for 50 years shall become a life member and shall thereafter be exempt from the Association, State and Branch dues.
Reciprocity: A member of the Association who has paid current dues shall be eligible to transfer her membership to another branch. Payment of any additional dues shall be waived for a transferring member whose dues have been paid in another branch.
